LittleMissMatched Sporty Girl Doll
Here's my Sporty Girl doll. I bought her on clearance at Toys r Us. A doll collector friend emailed me with an alert that she had seen a couple of LittleMissMatched dolls at one of the Toys r Us stores way across town. Of course I immediately packed up and dashed over. These dolls have been off the market for 8 months or more and I can't believe that store still had some. I bought her and Uptown Girl at the normal $25 price. All of the other LMM dolls I have I paid premium prices for because I didn't start collecting until after they were discontinued. Story of my life.
So here is Sporty Girl in the box.
And the back of the box - bright catchy graphics of a drawing of the doll, and her outfit. It also shows the other girls in the line.
She stands up on her own very easily. It's because she has flat feet. I like that. Most dolls wear the equivalent of 6 1/2" heels if they were life sized. Littlemissmatched is for a younger collector that typically would wear flat shoes.
Sporty girl sits easily. Here she's sitting on the floor because I don't have any furniture yet for a 15" doll. The picture shows her accessories that are included in the box.
I had a hard time getting her shirt and jacket off. They were sewn together into one piece and I ended up snipping the threads with scissors so they would separate. I'm sure that's what you are supposed to do because there is no possible way to get everything over her head all sewn together. I wish I had known it from the beginning because I damaged her shirt trying to get it off before I cut the pieces apart. All the garments are held closed with Velcro so once I got over the initial hurdle they were very easy to remove. The skirt has a strap that goes between her legs. I suppose that keeps it from riding up. First time I've seen that. And of course as you would expect with a Little Missmatched Doll she comes with 3 unmatched socks.
I like her brush. It's big and made of sturdy plastic. And her shoes are easy to remove, yet stay put when you put them on. The duffel bag tote is cute and also has Velcro to keep it closed. She also has painted on underpants which is nice.
Once I got her clothes off I was a bit disappointed to find that the black shirt had stained her shoulders and arms. Probably because she's been sitting in a hot warehouse for months. It's okay, it's just a few spots. She is jointed at the neck, elbows, shoulders, upper torso, hips and knees. At first a some of her joints were very stiff. I was very careful to twist and bend them until they loosened up so she didn't break. In the end she was very flexible.
Here is a picture of her clothes. The graphics are very cute. I recognize that puzzle design from LittleMissMatched clothes for young girls. I also took a pic of the strap inside the skirt and the tear on her shirt from me trying to force it over her head. Too bad. Overall the clothes quality isn't as nice as the doll. Some of the stitching is sloppy and her socks stuck to the inside of her shoes making it hard to remove them. Also likely because she was in a hot warehouse for a period of time.
Her face is absolutely adorable. I can't resist her cute upturned smile and bright eyes. Her features are painted on but her eyes almost look like glass inserts. Not sure why her eyebrows are yellow but the soft pink on her cheeks and lips is perfect for a young girls doll. She's got a full head of hair but it's not as soft as I thought it would be. It's thick though so that's important. I didn't take down her ponytail but I did pull apart the hair on her scalp and it looks like the rooted plugs are close together. I wouldn't expect any less from a Tonner Doll.
Finally here she is getting to know her friend Artsy Girl. I really need to get some bigger doll furniture so they don't have to sit on the floor. I love my new Sporty Girl. She was definitely worth the sprint across town to grab her before she became extinct in this city.
