I couldn't wait to get the New Skelita Calaveras Monster High doll from the Scaris City of Frights collection. Skelita made her debut in November 2012 as one of the new friends the Monster High ghouls meet on their trip to Scaris. Instead of riding around town searching the stores I bought mine on eBay. Yes I paid more but timing is everything and I've been waiting for her a long time. Something about her cute sugar skull face just spoke to me. She's going in my haunted dollhouse.
Read along as Skelita comes out of her box.
Thankfully the box was easy to open and mostly there were just a few tie downs and tiny rubber bands to cut. Although I never can understand why they sew doll's hair down. That's a bit unnerving because I'm always afraid I'll cut her hair. I never do but I always think about it. The box has cute graphics and the back tells about her. Skelita is a 15 year old monster teen that loves everything to do with Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. She travels to Scaris from Hexico, her hometown and where her family lives.
Look at the adorable picture of her family back in Hexico. She has it on the front of her travel journal. That's her dad, Los Eskeletos, and her mom, grandma, brother, and even her dog, Bones.
Once I got my Skelita out of the box, I posed her on her doll stand to see how she looks. Very beautiful I think. I especially love her detailed makeup. She's got Dia de los Muertos face paint in a soft and delicate style. She's got a cool outfit too. Black dress with rag style skirt. Her bio says her favorite color is Marigold so I expected to see more of that color. Marigold happens to be my favorite color as well. The prints look like scorpions and spider webs to me. And look at those fangtastic lime green shoes! They are adorable.

She had a lot of product in her hair but it brushed out easily and her hair was soft afterwards. There's a fiery orange streak that she twists in tendrils to frame her face. Her clothes come off easily thanks to the Velcro strips on the back. The belt, necklace, and shoes just slide off. The fabric is nice and everything seems to be sewn properly.
Look what I found underneath. Oh my! She's frightfully thin! I wish I had half her willpower.
Once she was undressed I quickly inspected her for points of articulation. She bends and twists at the neck, shoulders, wrists, hips, and knees. Although her other joints look like they may work, they are stationary. I guess you can take her bones apart though from looking at the instruction page. I didn't try it. Her knee just twist, they don't bend, which makes it hard to pose her in a chair.
Neither do her feet. Not good for posing without very high heeled shoes. I don't think any Monster High girls wear flats though.
Here is Skelita's cute rolling suitcase. The handle pulls up and goes down so it stores easily on the plane. And her clothes fit in easily if she finds something else to wear. She's in Scaris for a fashion competition so inside her journal she's got sketches of different outfits. Here's one she drew on herself. Her fashion favorites are a mix of Hexican traditional and modern.
I'm pleased as poison with my Skelita Calaveras doll. The only thing I would change is I would have given her more articulation instead of having the bones snap apart. I give her a bony thumbs up!
