Rufus Rutter Tonner Doll – A Friend For Ellowyne Wilde

Meet Rufus Rutter, my new doll from Wilde Imagination. I bought him from eBay naked. Probably the seller sold his clothes in another auction. I wanted the Unrequited version of the Rufus collection and he's discontinued so I had to buy him on the secondary market. It took a while for him to show up on eBay but when he did I grabbed him - even without his clothes.

So Rufus sat around in his box for a couple of months until I got around to buying him some duds. He couldn't have Ellowyne Wilde see him naked after all. Here is how he originally lived at my house for a while. In the box.

Then one day I found him an outfit someone had sewn on eBay and I bought it. The next day I saw Wilde Imagination had a sale on their doll clothes so I bought one of his official outfits. All of a sudden Rufus was getting some clothes. Time to let him out. Here is how he came in the box. He was still tied in with ribbon as a new doll would, except sans clothes, and the seller packed him in Styrofoam. Wilde Imagination dolls, a division of Tonner Dolls, don't come packaged with Styrofoam.

And here he is right out of the box. Notice the little Soul Patch beard he has? I had to look that beard name up on Google. As far as I know this is the only Rufus Rutter doll that has this beard. That's the main feature I was interested in. Rufus is 17" tall and fully jointed. He even has a torso joint. He can be posed very easily.

This is the first outfit I purchased for Rufus. It was made by an eBay seller and is very nicely stitched. Wool pants with a snap in the back, blue striped Oxford type shirt, a vest and hat.

Here is Rufus modeling his new fashions. Let me explain about the hair. It's obviously supposed to be combed over to the other side of his head but I couldn't get it to stay. And I was so interested in finally dressing him that I wasn't as concerned with his hair as I should have been. I'm not liking that hat by the way.

Here are some close up pictures of his face - still with messy hair. He has painted brown eyes with a highlighted area at the bottom of each iris. And nice thick eyebrows.

A side view - Rufus has a very large nose and close set eyes. I like that he's not meant to be perfectly handsome. His face is quirky and odd looking.

And the other side of his face. Ellowyne Wilde and Rufus Rutter have been friends since the 7th grade. He's now employed as Ellowyne's grandmother's handyman at her large Victorian mansion in San Francisco. He also attends college with Ellowyne. He received a scholarship as his family isn't well to do like hers so he is working to help pay his expenses.

Ellowyne and Rufus dressed in their casual attire for a walk in the city. Ellowyne is wearing her Timid Tan Too ensemble from Wilde Imagination. If you remember back when I dressed her in her Bay Breeze suit, I knocked off one of her eyelashes. I fixed it right before I took this photo. I think there's a little glue residue in her eye. She still needs a bit more work to fix everything.

It looks like they are almost holding hands. Not quite though. Rufus has harbored romantic feelings for Ellowyne for a very long time. He's quite timid and shy about them though and he hasn't told her outright. Ellowyne suspects he likes her but isn't sure of her feelings for him. She likes him as a very close friend but is still sorting through any stronger emotions.

The outfit I bought from the Wilde Imagination website sale is called Totally Relaxed. So now Rufus has some shoes.

The set includes a shirt and knitted vest, plaid pants, casual black shoes, and a hat.

The pants have an teeny zipper. The zipper pull is only about 1/8" long and quite hard to grasp unless you have some fingernails.

Rufus and Ellowyne are dressed for a nice dinner in this picture. Ellowyne always over dresses a little. She shops at all the thrift stores in San Francisco and puts together some stylish looks. Actually this dress and hat I bought somewhere online but I forgot where. It's not from the Wilde website. I believe it's handmade.

Oh for goodness sake Rufus, make sure you cut that elastic string on the hat, or at least tuck it up underneath, before you wear it again. Talk about a fashion faux pas.
